Calling 21 @ CUMC
Calling 21 is a Young Adult, Local Church Internship Program
What is Calling 21?
The Shenandoah University Institute for Church Professions initiated the program with the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2007. "Calling 21" is a partnership ministry among the Virginia Conference Center for Clergy Excellence, the Cabinet, and Shenandoah University.
"Calling 21" is a conference-wide, grass roots, congregation-based, youth-focused approach to the Virginia Conference's emerging culture of call. During the summer, college students are placed in church internships. These students spend a summer immersed in the life of a local church, not their own, discerning God's call into church leadership. They are trained on the Shenandoah University campus. The program exceeded expectations in its first years. It proved to be a valuable experience for the interns, pastors and churches. The program continues this year with Shenandoah University once again being the place of intern training.

Hey Culpeper UMC! My name is Tim Hares and I will be your Calling 21 intern for the summer! I’m so excited to get to meet you and to learn more about my calling into ministry. I’m a rising junior at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA majoring in Information Systems (Computer Stuff). I attend St. Luke’s UMC in Yorktown, VA where I serve as the worship leader. I’m originally from Texas, but have lived in Virginia since the age of four. I really love getting to meet new people so please don’t hesitate to come say “hi”! I really could not be more excited to be able to do ministry with everyone!
